Parsons Presbyterian Manor loses resident to COVID-19

A resident who previously tested positive for COVID-19 has died at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.

“The entire Parsons Presbyterian Manor family is mourning today,” said Maegen Pegues, executive director. “It is always difficult to lose one of our beloved residents, and our hearts are broken.”

The resident was being cared for by the COVID-19 Rapid Response Team in a designated area of the community.

Parsons Presbyterian Manor implemented a strict no visitor policy at the community and discontinued group activities and communal dining for the entire campus per guidelines released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on March 13. The community had started a slow reopening process in June, but placed those plans on hold earlier this month when 8 residents and 5 employees tested positive for the virus.

With additional positives in the building, the community is continuing weekly mass testing at the direction of the Labette County Health Department and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

All employees are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines and best practices as these are continually updated. The community regularly reinforces with all staff that an employee should not report to work if he or she is experiencing symptoms of a respiratory illness or not feeling well.

Parsons Presbyterian Manor will continue to work with the Labette County Health Department, KDHE, CMS and the CDC to stay current on all recommendations for resident care and safety.
