Resident tests positive for COVID-19 at Parsons Presbyterian Manor

An assisted living resident at Parsons Presbyterian Manor tested positive for COVID-19.

The resident was tested after alerting the campus that a close contact who they had been off campus with earlier in the week had tested positive for COVID-19. As a precaution, all other assisted living residents were tested, and all were negative for the virus.

Assisted living residents will self-isolate as a precaution. Visitation is suspended for assisted living residents. Scheduled visits will continue for health care residents.

The COVID-positive resident will be cared for in isolation by designated staff members who will follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Kansas Department of Health and Environment infection prevention and control protocols until cleared to leave isolation.

We have notified the Labette County Health Department and will follow any additional guidance they provide. We will continue to test unvaccinated staff twice weekly according to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements based on the positivity rate in Labette County.

We will continue to monitor residents for signs and symptoms of respiratory illness and COVID-19 on every shift.

We encourage all staff members and residents to follow CDC guidelines and best practices as these are continually updated.  We continue to screen employees as they enter the community building for a shift and before employees have any direct contact with residents.  We educate all staff to stay at home if they are experiencing symptoms of a respiratory illness or not feeling well.

Every person who receives the vaccine will strengthen the protection for all residents, staff and the community at-large. PMMA strongly encourages our families, employees and residents to carefully consider obtaining a vaccine for themselves as well as their loved ones.
