There's no place like nursing home week

Nursing Home Week, May 14-18, will be remembered by staff and residents alike. This fun-filled week was a way to celebrate the many benefits of senior living communities. Activity Director Jasmine Edie put a lot of time and effort into making this "Wizard of Oz" themed week fun for all, especially considering it was her first week in this position!

"I think the residents enjoyed watching the original ‘Wizard of Oz’ movie. A lot of the residents made comments about remembering the movie and how good it was. I also think making the rainbow fruit tray was an activity the residents enjoyed doing because they were just so surprised that It looked like a rainbow once we were all finished," said Jasmine.

Jasmine's personal favorite activity was making the witch’s hat toss because she loved to see the residents’ faces light up once they got the ring on the witch hat.

"After that week, I feel a little more prepared for what there is to come with activities. I feel like I have been thinking and moving nonstop, but I had a lot of fun with the residents and getting to know them. It has also helped me think of ways to do my job better with planning and organizing," said Jasmine.

She certainly proved she could jump in with both feet and do a phenomenal job!

Some of the week's activities included:

  • Wizard of Oz bingo
  • Poppies flower craft
  • Wizard of Oz cake pops
  • Oz-themed morning exercises
  • Rainbow string bracelets

Resident Lois Baker said that she liked to see all of the different activities we did, and she loved the candy bar. Donna Keller said she loved the creativity.

"It was so nice to see the residents' faces light up and chuckle at the candy connections made with the movie. My favorite one was the Smarties – used to tie in with the Tinman from the movie, 'if I only I had a brain,'" said Sloan, marketing director.

Thank you to all who participated in Nursing Home Week, and we look forward to more fun events and activities.
